“I’ve been asked a lot whether I get scared skiing big lines. The answer is yes.” -Tristan Brown

Okay so “gnarliest” is subjective and people may call that title hyperbolic but Shirley’s Snowfield in the Jackson Hole sidecountry is definitely up there. The hanging snowfield off the east face of Cody Peak rarely see tracks and Tristan “Teton” Brown had been looking at for years ever since he moved to JH. The following video explores the origins of the line and the process of Teton stepping up to it. Here’s what he had to say about it:

“I’ve been asked a lot whether I get scared skiing big lines. The answer is yes. Generally I’m calm and collected, but whenever there are “unknowns” added to the mix, my heart rate elevates, I start breathing heavily, and become irritable over the radio haha

In these situations, it’s necessary to take some extra time to evaluate the situation further. That way I can familiarize myself properly with the “unknowns” before skiing. In the case of this line, I was unsure whether I would strike rocks under the snow, which could send me tumbling down the cliff face.”

Shout out to the memory of Shirley Griber, she seemed like an amazing lady.
