Is The Stache Express the best chairlift name on the planet? Red Lodge’s new chairlift certainly has a case for that title.

Last Friday, Red Lodge Mountain in Montana opened for the season. Part of their opening day lineup included The Stache Express chairlift, which is named after Red Lodge’s General Manager: Jeff Schmidt. Since 2009, Jeff has been the General Manager at Red Lodge and is known for his signature mountain moustache.

In addition, the Montana ski resort was treated to seven inches the night before opening day, leading to some mint conditions. As part of the opening day celebrations, guests were treated to fake mustaches to wear while riding the chairlift.

This high-speed detachable triple chairlift, which originally was at Alta, replaced the Miami Beach chairlift. With the predecessor being a fixed-grip double chairlift, the Stache Express has a much faster speed. The new chairlift spans 2558 feet, has a vertical rise of 521 feet, and can carry 1800 guests per hour. The Stache Express goes further up the mountain compared to its predecessor, giving access to more terrain. The Stache Express services mostly beginner terrain, and gives guests access to the Palisades Quad.
