One of the most unique parts of skiing is going into the woods. Exploring the trees is when you really feel one with nature. But what North American ski resort has the best tree skiing?
PeakRankings, which has traveled across North America to rate ski resorts, created a list that ranks the best mountains for tree skiing. Their rating system is comprehensive, with them rating the Woods Skiability, Beginner/Intermediate Friendliness, Advanced/Expert-Friendliness, Uniqueness, and Tree Type Diversity. They then multiply this number by two to get a total score out of 100.
Their list features mountains across the continent. Two Colorado mountains come out on top, with Steamboat and Beaver Creek taking one and two, respectively. Steamboat’s rating is likely to improve with its upcoming expansion this winter. Multiple mountains in British Columbia (Big White, Revelstoke, and Whistler Blackcomb) made the top twelve. For Utah, Powder Mountain and Brighton made the top five. For East Coast mountains, Jay Peak came out on top.
You can check out their full tree skiing list here of every mountain they’ve visited, and the video breakdown is below. I’m pretty shocked that Big SNOW American Dream got a total score of 0. We may need to start a petition for them to plant some trees in there.
