If you ever wanted to play a real-life version of Mario Kart, it’s time to head to France. A couple of weeks ago, Avoriaz in France opened a Mario Kart-inspired summer racing course, which followed the opening of a go-kart course at the ski resort this past winter.
On the race course, riders travel down the Le Crôt trail. The course starts at the top of the 3S station, has a length of 2.05 miles, a vertical drop of 656 feet, and is a 20 to 30-minute descent. The 3-wheeled go-kart vehicle has hydraulic brakes, and a low center of gravity, leading to good traction on the dirt-filled ride.
Riders are required to wear helmets, and wearing long pants is recommended. There’s no age limit, but you need to be at least 48 inches to ride. If you’re under 18, you have to ride with an adult. In addition, riders need to be under 220 pounds to ride.
Personally, I would prefer to try it out in the wintertime. If you trip on a banana on your kart, it’s not going to feel good when your body touches the dirt. If you crash on their winter course, it’s obviously a softer landing.
