One of the most historic buildings in Crested Butte is currently for sale. Located on the West End of the ski town, 108 Maroon Avenue was known for most of its history as St. Patrick’s Church. Built back in the late 1880s, its architectural features include distinctive concrete buttresses, steep gabled roof pitches, arched stained glass windows, and the impressive pointed bell tower.

Between 2000 and 2002, a significant renovation converted the former church into a full-time home. The church space has been converted into a large living room, a moderately sized kitchen, and a dining area. In addition, the former church space has two bedrooms and three bathrooms. The church had an extension built into it, which features another kitchen, dining, and living room, four bedrooms, and three bathrooms. Four of the six bedrooms feature en-suite bathrooms, which all look pretty impressive. There’s also a basement area where you can store your skis and other outdoor gear. The outdoor portion of the 1/4 acre property has “perennial gardens, [a] lawn, stone patios, and brick walkways.

Based on Crested Butte’s housing crisis, I will say this: whoever buys this place, I hope they house a few local employees. Having six bedrooms is certainly enough to help out the people that actually run the town of Crested Butte. So if you’re the future homeowner: please do a solid for the community and house some seasonal workers.
