Zac Efron Nearly Charged By Bison On Catalina Island

Does being a celebrity mean you get a free pass when it comes to making stupid decisions? No. It absolutely does not.

I would say, personally, that I like Zac Efron. I’m not a fan, by and means (the only people worth being a fan of are professional skiers and snowboarder), but Down To Earth was a pretty darn solid show. He also just seems like a genuinely solid dude.

That said, he definitely doesn’t get a pass for getting too close to a bison in video. The video in question comes from a happy birthday post he made for his brother around a year and a half ago. The bison begins to move and the two in the clip (including Zac) immediately begin to run. Unfortunately, that’s where the video ends. Fortunately, we can be pretty darn certain that no one was actually harmed in the making of this video, as we likely would have seen a press release or something related if that was the case.

In case you’re wondering: Yes, they are on Catalina Island off the coast of California, and yes, there is a wild bison herd on Catalina Island. Apparently a movie crew left the small herd on the island back in the 1920s, and now there’s around 150 protected on the island.

Catalina Island asks that visitors stay at least 100 feet away from any bison. They can run up to 35mph (a lot faster than you) and are quite agile. If you get too close and piss one off, they might charge and you’ll have a very hard time getting away. If one does choose to charge, get low to the ground and protect your head and torso.
