The ski season in South America is underway. Cerro Bayo was the first ski resort to open in Argentina on June 17th, followed by Cerro Castor on June 23rd.

While the ski resorts have been able to open for the season, natural snowfall has been minimal so far. According to Powderchasers, powder is on the way. Here’s the latest conditions report from Argentina.

Cerro Bayo: This ski resort, which is situated in the Neuquén province, is known for its views of Nahuel Huapi Lake.

Cerro Bayo’s season began on June 17th, with the beginner area opening first. Most of their runs are now open, although a few of them have thin coverage. The only trails that aren’t open are the double-black diamond terrain in the backcountry. Every lift of theirs minus the TS Principal are now open.

Cerro Castor: The Southernmost ski resort on the planet opened for the season on June 23rd. Currently, 21 of their 35 pistes are at least partially open. Most of their lifts are now running, with the Teleski Los Castores and Teleski Del Este being the only ones that are currently closed.

In terms of what’s new at the ski resort, the video below from @Fotiar breaks it all down. According to my currently weak understanding of the Spanish language (I really need to start using Duolingo), they added two new trails, made some snowmaking upgrades, and added a new stage for concerts and events.

Cerro Catedral: This Argentinian ski resort opened for the season on June 29th. Most of their major lifts and trails are now open, while there are a few closed trails and lifts in each terrain pod.

The 2022-23 offseason saw major capital investments at the ski resort, which included a new detachable high-speed six-pack and quad chairlifts. Other additions included snowmaking upgrades and a new trail.

Cerro Chapelco: Opening for the season on July 1st, Chapelco now has most of its runs and lifts open. The only runs that currently aren’t open are Directa, Tuba, and Cañadón, while the Lift del Puente 2 is the only lift that’s currently closed.

La Hoya: The slopes at this ski resort in the Chebul Province don’t face the sun, meaning the snow sticks around and allows for some great powder days. La Hoya’s season began on July 7th, and they already have most of their trails and lifts open.

Las Leñas: The most popular ski resort in Argentina opened for the season on July 8th. They opened with the Apolo and Júpiter lifts, along with the Neptune Snowpark and the Venus Learn to Ski area. Sectors 1 & 2 currently have limited terrain and lifts open, while Sector 3 remains closed.
