The crash is being investigated by the coroner’s office, as well as the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office and the Colorado State Patrol. The official cause of death is pending autopsy although multiple blunt force trauma injuries were evident. His death has been ruled an accident.

Crown family spokesperson Jacob Crows released the following statement on the family’s behalf:

“The Crown family is deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Jim Crown in an accident earlier today. The family requests that their privacy be respected at this difficult time. Further details regarding plans for a memorial to remember Jim’s remarkable life will be released at a later date.”

Our thoughts are with the Crown family.
