High rainfall and snowfall throughout the winter have lead to a renewed gold rush in California, with erosion along the foothills loosening gold-rich gravel on the banks of the American River and the Yuba River. Gold panning is a pretty fun activity, especially with younger kids.

While you probably won’t be finding a nugget big enough to make you rich, this could be a very good time to get out there with your gold pan.
