“Breckenridge Ski Resort, Ski Patrol and the entire Vail Resorts community extend our deepest sympathy and support to our guest’s family and friends,” -Jody Churich, Breckenridge Ski Resort VP & COO

A 60-year-old skier from suburban Chicago was pronounced dead at St. Anthony’s Summit Hospital after falling 25 feet from a chairlift at Breckenridge Ski Resort on St. Patricks Day.

The Summit Daily reports the skier, John Perucco, was riding Zendo Chair when he fell approximately 25 feet to a hard packed groomer. He had not yet reached Tower 1. The victim was reportedly wearing a helmet.

The Summit County Sheriff investigation determined the safety bar was up on the four-person, fixed-grip chairlift at the time of the accident and “male had fallen off of the chairlift as he was attempting to remove snow from the seat surface.”

The Colorado Passenger Tramway Safety Board is currently investigating the incident and a report will be published upon the completion of the investigation. images from Summit County Sheriff’s Office FB & Breckenridge Ski Resort FB
