Alta Ski Area has announced that the start to this season is officially the deepest ever on record following a surprise 9-inch yesterday storm that took the ski area’s seasonal total to a whopping 445 inches!
That’s the most snow recorded between October and January in the 43-year history of the Collins Study Plot.

To put things into perspective, it’s only late-January, and Alta Ski Area averages 500 inches throughout an entire season.
They’re well on their way to smashing their seasonal average, but one question remains- how much will they total by closing day?
According to the Western Regional Climate Center, Alta recorded 846.6″ during the 1982-1983 season.
Here’s hoping they crush that record this year!
