Wild video from Bo Welden, a guide with Jackson Hole EcoTours, showing one of nature’s many intense races. According to the caption, Bo’s group had been watching wolves from one of the Teton’s few wolf packs as they slowly made their way towards a herd of elk. Fortunately for both us and the group, they made the decision to change their positions, allowing them to catch this incredible clip.

According to the National Park Service, there’s somewhere around 43 wolves spread out in 6 packs who’s territories cross into the Teton Range. That makes this video even more impressive, at least in my mind, as there’s about .0005 wolves per square mile in the area. To see one, let alone to see one chasing an elk, is incredibly lucky.

For those unwilling to watch a video where they might see an animal get hurt, I promise you A) you don’t see anything violent in the video and B) according to the in-video captions, the elk successfully escaped the wolf, so no animal was harmed (unless you count the wolf not getting anything to eat). Super cool video, and definitely a super cool experience for those who actually got to witness it in person!
