Search and rescue crews from the San Juan County and Grand County sheriff’s offices in Utah responded to a helicopter crash in the La Salle Mountains on 8th, according to KSL News. The helicopter, hired by the Division of Wildlife Resources, was carrying three crew members tasked with finding and tagging mountain goats throughout the area when the crash occurred.

“Helicopter Wildlife Services is operated by highly trained and responsible professionals who understand the risks involved with their job. Unfortunately, accidents occasionally happen despite the best efforts to avoid them.” – Division of Wildlife Resources spokesman Aaron Bott

The helicopter had reportedly crashed on a steep peak, forcing the search and rescue crew to rely on an Utah Department of Public Transportation helicopter to remove the 3 individuals stuck on the crashed aircraft.

“It was a really steep snowfield kind of leading up to the aircraft, and then cliff for about five thousand feet above that. They were very fortunate that the helicopter kind of stayed where it was. They could have slid a lot longer or tumbled a lot farther.” – Rescue pilot Luke Bowman
