Brian Head Resort claimed the prize as the first ski resort open in the state of Utah when they spun lifts last week, but it appears that Brighton and Solitude are locked in a heated back-and-forth to be the first in the SLC area.

Here’s the breakdown of events in chronological order:

November 4th: Solitude announces they will open on 11/11.

November 9th (10:15 AM MT): Brighton announces they will also open on 11/11.

November 9th (11:15 AM MT): Solitude announces they’re bumping their opening to 11/10 at 2:00 PM MT.

November 10th (10:45 AM MT): Brighton announces they’re opening at 11:00 AM on November 10th to passholders only.

How’s that for some good ol’ fashioned ski resort drama, eh?

I haven’t seen two resorts go at each other like this since Arapahoe Basin and Keystone battled it out back in 2019.

Pretty sneaky sneaky for Brighton to announce 15-minutes before hand that they’re opening for passholders. Well played. Well played.

Here’s hoping some of you reading this are able to skirt on up to Brighton or Solitude today!

Brighton is unofficially the first ski resort open in northern Utah. That’s gotta mean something, right?
