I know trailer camping isn’t real camping. You’re driving to your location, you don’t actually have to carry anything on your back, and you’re able to bring a fairly decent amount of daily comforts along with you. But having your own camper trailer to attach to the back of your car really seems like a taste of true freedom to me. The point I’m trying to make is this: I so badly want an Airstream, and after seeing this product, I want one even more.
Airstream and REI have paired up for the 2023 Special Edition Basecamp, taking the classic basecamp design to the next level so your outdoor adventure doesn’t have to be limited to just a few days. The normal faucet is paired up with a filtered faucet, using a UV-LED system to make sure the water you’re drinking clean water from the onboard 21 gallon tank. You don’t even need to bring your own cups, as the REI edition has several included.
It includes a recirculated water heater, keeping your water tank full for as long as possible, an optional air conditioner, and an onboard furnace. There’s a refrigerator, two burner cooktop, stainless steel sink, and optional microwave to make the food aspect just a bit easier. The kitchen features exposed birch plywood, a layered green slate countertop, and a sink cover made from recycled paper. On top of all that, this Special Edition Airstream comes with an OXO kitchen utensil kit.
The build itself is meant to allow you to get as far off-road as possible, with a 3″ lift kit, off road tires, frontal window solar protection, and much more. With this guy, you aren’t limited to the roads most traveled or even really the roads less traveled.
There’s so so much more to this special edition build, but I don’t want to spoil everything and make the actual walkthrough too boring. Give this sucker a watch, and if you’re in the market for a new camper trailer, this might be your guy. According to the website, the base package starts at $52,900. Yes, that’s pretty pricy, but it definitely has the opportunity to spice up your life in the best way possible.
