Telluride is set to begin their 2022-23 ski season on November 24, and with the new season comes the completion of their newest replacement lift, Chair 9, or, as the mountain has named it, The Plunge Express. We already knew that. We’ve known that for quite a bit. But the Telluride YouTube account just gave us a good look at what that lift is going to look like, so I thought we’d revisit what this improvement means, and show off the rendering.

The new high-speed detachable quad lift, manufactured by Doppelmayr, will increase the areas uphill capacity per hour by 753 people, bringing the total to 1,800/hr. Traveling over 2,000 vertical feet, the lift mainly provides access to difficult terrain, with a few blues, blacks, double blacks, and expert terrain located under its unloading zone. In short, this is a lift upgrade for the hardcore skiers. The lift is expected to be completed on December 16th, with it opening to the public after several tests and checklist items are completed.
