“That’s right its my fist baby!”
Southern California shark tagger Keith Poe recently posted this interaction with a 12-foot female mako that had what appeared to be mating bite marks on her pectoral fins. Keith doesn’t use hooks to get sharks to his boat before tagging them, rather he attaches bate to the end of a rope and relies on the sharks to clamp down and hold on as he hand reels them in. In this case he used the head of a bonito as bate and when the shark reached the boat it refused to let go and a maritime interspecies game of tug-of-war ensued. This job is not for the feint of heart.
