Eaglecrest Ski Area in Juneau, Alaska could soon have a gondola. KINY Radio reports that Juneau’s local government assembly narrowly approved the measure to give Eaglecrest $2 million dollars to purchase the gondola that is currently in Austria. The purchase was approved via a narrow five to four majority, but it was amended. This amendment says that “the gondola could not be transported from Austria to Juneau without first obtaining Assembly approval.” The delivery date is expected to be between May 20 to June 1. Before the gondola can be installed, the ski area will also need to secure $6.2 million in funding. Still, it’s a step in the right direction in what could be a transformative addition for the ski area. Click here to learn more about Eaglecrests plans to install a gondola.
