Big Sky Resort has just released one of the most ambitious ski resort development plans in modern history.

The plans are being called ‘The Final Chapter’ of Big Sky 2025, a 10-year plan to revitalize the resort.

Most notably, Big Sky will replace the existing tram to the summit of Lone Peak.

The new tram will provide year-round access for pedestrians, and skiers to Big Sky’s iconic Lone Peak for the first time ever.

The replacement of the Lone Peak Tram has been long-awaited after its 25 years of operation. Bringing a new scenic viewing platform and a quicker ride, we will continue to preserve the core ski experience off the summit by managing the number of skiers every hour based on current conditions. The new tram will be the first project to break ground with construction beginning in summer 2022.

A new Scenic Viewing Platform will be constructed at the top of Lone Peak that includes stunning panoramic views.

The top terminal of the new tram will include an all-glass viewing platform with panoramic views to the surrounding peaks, and down the fall line of Lone Mountain through a glass floor. A completely reimagined scenic experience on the summit of Lone Peak complements the ski access, offering guests a must-do activity during both winter and summer seasons.

The new tram will launch from a base station that also hosts the top of a brand-new two-stage gondola. The station will feature food and beverage options and spectacular views of Lone Peak.

Big Sky’s new two-stage gondola will replace the existing Explorer Chair, and take passengers from the base all the way to the Bowl.

A new two-stage gondola will replace the existing Explorer chair, which has been in operation since the resort’s opening in 1973. The new gondola will extend all the way to the Bowl, connecting to the lower terminal of the new tram, the mid-station Learning Center, and multiple dining facilities. This replacement will transform access to the Explorer and northern Swift Current terrain with the new gondola providing massive improvements to comfort and speed.

Big Sky aims to start construction of the new tram in Summer of 2022. The entire project is slated to be finished by 2025.

These new lifts will change the Big Sky experience entirely. Accessing Lone Peak will be significantly easier, and the two-stage gondola will change skier distribution on the mountain.
