I’ve only been ice fishing once in my life, and I was pretty young, so I don’t remember much of it, but in general, it seems like a very good time. Either out on the lake, drinking drinks, snacking on snacks, or sitting in the warm ice shanties, doing pretty much the same thing. Where I grew up, it was a pretty common activity, and I have never, in my life, heard of a connection between the small shacks situated on ice covered lakes and prostitution. Mayor of Hudson Ohio, Craig Shubert, however, seems to think one leads directly into the other, and his logic is, well, interesting.

“And if you then allow ice fishing with shanties, then that leads to another problem – prostitution. Now you’ve got the police chief and the police department involved.” Mayor Craig Shubert.

His logic, apparently, comes from his experience as a news reporter, where he had apparently covered situations of prostitution in shanties in the past… I think, maybe, he’s confused as to what an ice shanty is? Maybe? I mean, I don’t know if he’s ever been inside one of those shacks, but they are generally fairly cold, sometimes heated with a small fire place, but still pretty cold, and if there are actually fish being caught, they smell horrendous. I feel like they aren’t… well… the ideal place for prostitution?
