The Science Behind Why Bridges Ice Before Roads

Ever wondered why bridges sometimes have those signs that read, ‘BRIDGE ICES BEFORE ROADS’? It might seem obvious that a bridge without ground insulation is more susceptible to ice, but you’d be surprised how many people just don’t get the concept.

The video below shows numerous cars sliding on an icy overpass bridge in North Carolina. It doesn’t look like any of the incidents were too serious (thankfully), but there are definitely some close calls.

Also, why is somebody just posted up with a camera to record cars slipping and sliding around? Seems a little sociopathic, doesn’t it?
