A brutal winter storm is barreling through the The Lake Tahoe region today (12/27). The storm is dumping copious amounts of snow, but the high winds and avalanche danger is forcing multiple resorts to pause operations out of safety concerns. Road closures have also caused headaches. I-80 is currently closed due to down powerlines and blizzard conditions.

A few resorts were closed yesterday (12/26) as well.

Closing during the holiday season will undoubtedly be a huge hit to the revenue for these resorts, but good on them for prioritizing safety over profits.

It’s probably a good idea to stay home today if you’re in the Lake Tahoe area. The backcountry and resorts are simply not safe to ski or ride today. Don’t worry… All of that snow will be there for a looooong time. Just wait it out!

Take a look at some of the resorts that are closed below. *THIS POST WILL BE UPDATED THROUGHOUT THE DAY*
