Reno, Nevada is known as the Biggest Little City In The World. As far as little cities go, this gritty town in western Nevada offers one of the best locations for skiers. From Reno, there is killer high-elevation backcountry skiing a mere minutes away off Mount Rose Highway. In addition, there are a number of ski resorts near Truckee and Tahoe accessible in under an hour.

This big little city was hit especially hard during the housing market crash in 2008. Fortunately, or unfortunately, depending on your stance, the city has sprung back with a vengeance. As of April 2021, the median house price in Reno was $514,000, a 20% increase over the previous year. The amount of development and expansion in Reno is truly mindboggling. There is a lot of space to work with, and homes and condominiums are being built at a rapid pace.

There are many reasons for this rapid growth. The exodus out of California has brought a lot of people to Reno. Access to Tahoe is certainly a draw while the cost of living is very cheap compared to the Bay or L.A.  In addition, locals being squeezed out of nearby Tahoe and Truckee are drawn by the higher number of employment opportunities in Reno. Also, a number of high-profile California-based employers have moved to Reno to take advantage of tax benefits and cheaper real estate.
