Long before energy drinks became popular, there was one beverage that was ahead of its time. Before every convenience store carried Red Bull, Rockstar, and Monster, there was a pioneer that doesn’t get quite enough respect. Jolt Cola.
Jolt Cola came on the scene in 1985 and was marketed as a caffeine-packed beverage. It was positioned primarily as a stimulant and was marketed towards young adults seeking energy boost. The term “energy drink” had not yet emerged. Whether or not Jolt tasted good is up for debate. What isn’t up for debate is this beverage seems to really fit the extreme, action sports, lifestyle.
Jolt Cola spiked in popularity in the 90s and has somewhat faded. The beverage was once available at many convenience stores and now it is a little more difficult to find around town. According to the Jolt website, it can still be purchased on Amazon, although it is exceptionally difficult to find. Jolt Cola, we salute you.
