“Configured by United Rotorcraft with a newly designed 1,000-gallon water tank attached to the belly of the aircraft; an extended landing gear to accommodate the tank; a retractable snorkel than can refill the tank in less than one minute; and a rescue hoist, the FIREHAWK helicopters will allow fire crews to attack wildfires, transport up to 12 ground firefighters to the fire line, and rescue firefighters and civilians when in need.”

Colorado will soon have a new asset to use when fighting wildfires across the state. It’s a state-of-the-art helicopter known as a Sikorsky S70i FIREHAWK® manufactured by United Rotorcraft, a division of Air Methods Corporation.  The purpose built helicopter is able to intake 1000 gallons of water in under a minute and transport up to 12 people at time whether to it be firefighters to the frontline or civilians needing evacuation. The new FIREHAWK should be delivered some time in 2022.
