Kayakers were able to paddle through an abandoned railroad tunnel on Shasta Lake, CA back in 2014 thanks to the historic drought in the region.

The tunnel is dated 1884 and 1927, and the trestle bridge seen in the beginning of the video is dated 1901.

It’s very eerie to watch the light disappear as the kayaker moves further into the tunnel. Maybe bring a flash light next time?

Shasta Lake began to store water in 1944 when the Shasta Dam was constructed on the Sacramento River.

The lake is technically a reservoir, and is the largest in the state of California. It’s also the 3rd largest inland body of water in California only behind Lake Tahoe and Salton Sea.
