Tragic news out of it Italy where a cable car accident left 14 people dead Sunday. The cable car was traveling from Lake Maggiore in northern Italy to the top of a mountain when it plunged about 60 feet to the ground and then rolled down a steep grade. Italian officials have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.

The cable car is a popular attraction located just over 50 miles northwest of Milan along the shores of Lake Maggiore. It carries passengers to the peak of Mottarone (5,000ft). The the cable line was renovated in 2016 and that the attraction had just reopened following closures during coronavirus lockdowns.

The cause of the accident has yet to be identified. We will update as soon as more information become available.
