The Bozeman Daily Chronicle is reporting that the ski patrol at Big Sky, MT voted 69 to 21 in favor of unionizing.
Big Sky Ski Patrol joins recently established ski patrols unions at Stevens Pass, Steamboat, Park City, and Breckenridge to name a few.
A representative for Big Sky Ski Patrol told The Bozeman Daily Chronicle that the movement was 7 years in the making, and that the recent push was to establish livable wages and benefits for career ski patrollers.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see more ski patrol outfits follow suit after seeing major resorts like Big Sky take the leap into representation.
This is the humble opinion of one internet ski blogger, but I believe that representation for ski patroller is a good thing. We need experienced patrollers at major resorts where deadly situations are common.
Keeping these valuable ski patrollers employed will mean less deaths, less serious injuries, and an all-around better experience for skiers and snowboarders across the country.

Remember to thank a ski patroller the next time you see one.
