If you’re a snow purist at heart you will happy to know that Monarch Mountain in Colorado will be opening November 1st with completely natural snow.  They’ve been working hard with what snow they got, pushing it around for coverage and even harvesting from the parking lot, and are happy to announce their earliest opening day in 50 years! HERE’S WHAT THEIR VP OF MOUNTAIN OPS HAS TO SAY:

What a month it has been.  Today we announced the date for our earliest opening in 50 years!  The mountain looks incredible for the end of October.  We have had 17″ in the last 48 hours and it’s still dumping.  We will open with 100% natural snowfall. Who else in the country can say that on Nov 1st?
The mountain has been abuzz all day as we click on all cylinders up here in order to be ready on Friday.  Slope Maintenance has the cats out track packing, grooming and winching the slopes along with loaders harvesting mountains of snow from the lot.  Patrol has been stringing ropes and pads along with getting equipment up on the mountain. Lift Ops and Maintenance are getting ramps dialed and fine tuning our machines.  Base Services has been digging everything out and Vehicle Maintenance has everything ready to run.
We plan to operate the Pioneer Lift, Tumbelina Lift and the Caterpillar.  We will offer approximately 20 open ski trails for our opening weekend including most of our easiest trails, a half-dozen more difficult trails and a couple of most difficult trails.  Stay tuned for details.  I got out again for a lunch lap today and it was deep.  This will be one for the record books.

“The snow is still falling here at Monarch. Another 7 inches overnight. Keep doing those snow dances! #allnatural👇
