Friday’s 7.1 magnitude earthquake in California ripped open a fissure, large enough that it can be seen from space. The quake struck in Southern California at 8:19pm on July 5th. The large crack that formed as a result of the earthquake were observed by Planet Labs Inc. on July 4 and 6, respectively.

It was the largest earthquake to occur inside the state of California since 1999, according to the Los Angeles Times.
