There was a very lively comment section yesterday on a post about Vail Resorts owned Park City Mountain Resort closing early despite abundant snow but we should note that shutting down ski resorts with enough snow to continue to operate is not isn’t boilerplate corporate policy across Vail Resort’s portfolio. Heavenly in South Lake Tahoe, which is also owned by Vail Resorts, just announced they will be extending their spring season by 3 more weekends:

“EXTRA SEASON EXTENSION ALERT!!!  Heavenly’s NEW closing day is May 27th. We’re excited to announce three more weekends of spring skiing through Memorial Day: May 10-12, May 17-19, and May 24-27.”

While this is great news for South Lake locals, it might be painful to hear for folks in PCMR who feel like their ski and snowboard culture has been reduced to a column on an Excel spreadsheet. As they say business is business but from the comments section there seemed to be pockets of dissatisfaction with Vail Resorts takeover towns across the country and the natives are restless. Thought?
