California’s most popular ski destination, Mammoth Mountain will see even more visitors this upcoming ski season thanks to new, direct United Airlines flights from Los Angeles and Denver.

This is big news. Ikon Pass holders in the Denver area will now be able to jump a flight to the Sierra for a impromptu powder chase. In Southern Cal, skiers who frequent Big Bear and Snow Summit won’t have to fight traffic to all the way to Mammoth.

“With daily service on United through Denver, San Francisco and Los Angeles, Mammoth Lakes is now accessible either directly or with a short connection from just about anywhere in the country and a number of international destinations.” – John Urdi, Executive Director of Mammoth Lakes Tourism

Locals may not love this infusion of more people to the Mammoth Lakes region but from a business perspective– it’s a savvy move. We doubt the addition of several flights per weekend will drastically change the amount of people at Mammoth on a Saturday but it will be interesting to see how the Ikon effect and these flights affect this marvelous mountain town.
