“As consumers are connected across every touch point of their daily lives, it an advancement not only for Elan, but also for the ski industry to connect technology between the skier and their skis.” -Melanja Šober

How would you like real time feedback on your turns informed by sensors implanted in your skis, then fed to your smartphone via Bluetooth and finally pumped through your headphones like a helicopter coach? Well thats the dream for ELAN Skis and their new fully integrated smart ski concept.

There isn’t a ton of info on the new ski concept but according to a Digital Trends article, they were debuted at ISPO in Munich with a demonstration of the new technology integrated into the ELAN SLX Fusion ski. Conventioneers were encouraged to watch as the Smart Ski captured data points from the movement sensors and relayed it real time onto a computer screen. The data points include precise weight flex and balance distribution.

Not sure if I’m ready for my skis to tell me what to do rather than the other way around but there is certainly a useful application of the technology somewhere and I’m interested to see where ELAN goes with it. Thoughts?
