If you haven’t noticed, hammocks are like the fidget spinners of suspended sleeping. They are all the craze on college campuses, campsites and just about anywhere you find two stationary objects approximately spaced out larger than a human being.  There are tons of recent innovations in their design including “The M.C. Hammie” 3 in 1 hammock by Wildish (retail $129).

The M.C. Hammie is already fully funded on Kickstarter, so it will go into production but you can still secure the early investor rate of $99 if you pledge in the next 6 days. You could argue that this is just great marketing and any hammock could be used as a blanket or made into a shelter in a pinch but not all hammocks use waterproof fabric:

“The M.C. Hammie is made with the same high performance materials commonly found in premium tents and select hammocks. The primary material is a DWR Diamond Ripstop Nylon that is durable and water repellent.”

Also the addition of a few key loops make the conversion into a shelter a pretty simple process:

“Most hammocks overlook the versatility gained from simple nylon loops. They have a big impact on multi-use-ability so we designed them in.”

Pretty cool product, for the right person this thing would make the perfect gift.  I think it’s safe to say many more hammock solutions will be coming down the pipeline in the near future. There was a day when this Simpson’s joke seemed ridiculous, but I think we have entered an age when Hank Scorpio’s hammock district could become a reality.
