“It’s a great tool to have in our wheel house to work our avalanche terrain” Max Tyler of Copper Ski Patrol

An interesting new tool is being used by Copper Mountain in their ongoing battle to mitigate avalanche danger. The Avalanche Roller is winched down from a snowcat anchor and controlled by remote.  It packs down snow and breaks it apart before avalanche danger can develop, taking the place of time honored but labor intensive practice of bootpacking.

We love to see safety innovation here at Unofficial and hope to see this technology improve and spread.  Anything that keeps us safe and opens up terrain more efficiently gets our seal of approval.
