A Calgary resident is dead after her parachute failed to deploy while BASE jumping off the iconic Perrine Memorial Bridge near Twin Falls, Idaho on Friday reports CTV News Calgary. 34 year-old, Kristin Renee Czyz had completed four BASE jumps from the bridge prior to her fifth and final attempt.

After Czyz hit the water, a nearby boat recovered her body. People on the boat began performing CPR but were unsuccessful in their efforts. Ultimately, they brought Czyz to a nearby dock, where medical personnel pronounced her dead.

The Perrine Memorial Bridge is known for its status as the only legal structure from which people can BASE jump in the United States. That status is due largely to its relative safety. However, BASE jumping is a dangerous activity and no matter how large the margin for error, it’s still extremely risky.

*Our deepest condolences go out to Kristin’s friends and family
