An avalanche in the northern Madison Range near the Yellowstone Club has claimed the life of a ski patroller. The patroller has yet to be identified but reports indicate that he was skiing in a group of four at the time of the avalanche, which included another patroller as well as two graduate students from Montana State University reports Montana Public Radio. According to the Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center, the slide itself was not large but other incidents reported on the same day included a large slide in the Bridger Range as well as another slide in the southern Madison range.

GNFAC Avalanche Fatality Report

Yesterday afternoon a skier was killed in an avalanche near Cedar Basin in the northern Madison Range. The avalanche took him into trees and his three partners rescued him quickly, but he died of trauma. I am withholding some information until families are fully notified.  I will investigate the scene today and write a report later in the week. We are extremely sad to hear of this incident and our condolences go out to his family and friends.
