The search for a Sugar Bowl ski instructor who was reported missing on Friday has been suspended indefinitely.

Heavy winds, snow, and high avalanche danger have hampered efforts to find the 23 year-old Carson May reports the Sacramento Bee.

Placer County spokesperson, Dena Erwin commented on the move to suspend search efforts saying, “Placer County sheriff’s personnel, Sugar Bowl representatives and chaplains met with the May family today, and it is with regret that we must suspend the efforts to locate Carson.”

However, Erwin says that follow-up searches would be conducted at a later date, depending on good weather and new information coming to light.

May was last seen by his brother, who believes that he was headed to his locker. May possibly took a backcountry route to get there.
