When it was announced that Lost Valley Ski Area was not going to open this season the community rallies to raise funds and donate time to get the lifts back spinning.
“Dozens of volunteers are continuing to show their support for Lost Valley Ski Area in Auburn, preparing the slopes on a “Work Day.”
When the resort’s owners announced over summer that it might not open for skiing this winter because of financial troubles, $26,000 in donations came in to save it.
Those donations were enough for Lost Valley to open one of its chair lifts for the upcoming season.
Coordinated through the group Friends of Lost Valley, volunteers chopped down trees, cut the grass and did everything else necessary to get the resort in tip-top shape Sunday.
“It’s also getting things done that we would not have gotten done,” Co-owner Connie King said. “You know we just don’t have the man power, the crew to get it done. They’re taking trees down. I mean it’s amazing the stuff they’re doing.”
