After a week of very warm temperatures and little moisture we finally see some snowfall to impact the West in the next 4 days. The Sierra will see moderate rainfall below 8,000 feet tonight turning colder by Sunday morning with snow levels dropping to most base areas. Snow amounts could range from 6-9 inches at the highest peaks, 3-5 mid mountain, and 1-4 lower elevations. The chase should focus in the northern Sierra near Truckee as well as in the OR/CA border. Best day to ride will be Sunday as it is snowing at upper elevations. Don’t expect blower!
The Wasatch will see snow above 8,000 feet on Monday turning moderate by late PM. Snow levels will drop to 6,000 feet late Monday making PM or Tuesday your best shot for some powder turns. Expect generally 4-7 inches total by early Tuesday morning (Medium density on top of heavy).
Colorado will get a quick blast of snow Monday morning and afternoon and aiming at the central mountains and perhaps the Front Range. Some of my main calculations that I use to forecast are currently down so I can pin point better on tomorrows update. The bulk of moisture looks to fall from Monarch and up into southern Summit County on Monday. Storm skiing is possible Monday and again Tuesday as the sytem pulls to the East. The higher elevations of the Colorado resorts can often reap the rewards of these warm systems and high snow levels. This will not be a major event, however could sneak out a powder day!

Long term models are trending above average moisture for the West during April and currently showing an active pattern developing for the Sierra and Rockies towards the end of next week! More details will follow but don’t put the boards away just yet!
