Snow Update from powderchasers.com
OVER 20 inches (Wolf Creek reported 18 as of 4pm yesterday) has fallen at many spots in the southern San Juan’s of Colorado as we wait for snow reports to roll in from NM and AZ (Most likely decent amounts). Crested Butte also picked up decent amounts yesterday as well as 5 inches overnight. Most central mountains of Colorado are reporting 3-6 inches including Vail. Moderate snow is falling over the Wasatch of UT with over a foot at higher elevations this morning at Alta and Snowbird where I am currently chasing.
ROCKIES
Several disturbances will keep snow falling in many areas in the next 4 days however below will highlight the deeper events only. Most of the UT, WY, CO mountains will have a prolonged period of snowfall.
The Southern Mountains of Colorado will see an increase of snow later today through tonight (5-10 additional). The Central and Northern Mountains will see an increase of snow later on Sunday/Monday (4-8) however the heaviest amounts will fall from Midnight Tuesday to 10 AM Wednesday (9-12 or more). The I-70 Corridor will be favored with Vail, Steamboat, Aspen, and Summit picking up the highest amounts The Tetons in WY will see it’s best snowfall during the day on Monday and early Tuesday (11-14) as a cold front slowly sags through the State. This will reach the Wasatch of Utah by Tuesday morning and continue through the night (11-18).
NORTHWEST: Very active week ahead! The first of 2 major systems moves onshore this afternoon dumping 7-11 inches of dry nearly blower (1,000 foot snow level) from Baker to Crystal before tapering on Sunday morning.The next system pounds the Cascades on Sunday night and Monday (18-24 inches) with lots of wind, and slowly rising snow levels (2,00-3,000) in the south. Monday might have lift impacts especially early in the day.
THE CHASE:
Saturday: Wolf Creek Colorado (20 plus), Alta-Snowbird (12 inches on top)
Sunday: Pacific Northwest (I will be at Crystal Mountain- 7-11 dry snow)
Monday: Jackson Hole, Grand Targhee (Storm ski day), Pacific Northwest (HEAVY SNOW and wind with some lift impacts)
Tuesday: Northern and Southern Wasatch of Utah (Storm ski day), snowing lightly in Central and northern Colorado, PM good?
Wednesday: Vail, Aspen, Breck, Steamboat (11 inches or more), Alta and Snowbird still a good bet (18 inch or more storm totals).
My chase will attempt to include Snowbird today, Crystal on Sunday/Monday, Utah Tuesday and Colorado on Wednesday! I am aiming for the 3 State Powder Trifecta.
