When the ski season ends, preparation for the next one begins. Major ski resort projects are already beginning. At some places, this means full removal and replacement of old lifts, which means chopping down towers and removing some major metal work.

I don’t know if cables are always removed from ski lifts in this fashion. My guess is that there’s probably a safer way. But it is pretty wild to see the cable snap back when it’s released. I’m betting that’s more because of weight than because of tension, but still.

“They are cutting the main cable for an old ski lift. A crazy way to take down a ski lift.”
