For a six-week period in February and March, the Great Meadow in Astoria Park, Queens will be turned into a winter wonderland as a pilot ski program for 8- to 10-year-olds.

The program will be operated by the Parks Department, but Sugarbush Resort will be flipping the bill. It has been said that the owner of Sugarbush Resort is a New Yorker himself and is looking to give back to the community.  Snow machines will make man-made snow on the natural hill in the park with free lessons for kids who sign up for the program.

Details have not been finalized but as it stands ski lessons will be offered Saturday and Sunday mornings to local kids. During the week, the slope would be available to the public.
