With Squaw Valley‘s no hiking policy many Squaw/Alpine skiers headed over to Alpine Meadows to make the first turns of the season. The snow was about 2 feet deep of true sierra cement which made for perfect October preseason turns. The smooth thick layer of snow kept you riding high atop of the rocks, branches and dirt. The coverage was solid from the top of the Alpine Summit Chair all the way down to the parking lot! John Parker had this to say about the skiing today, “That may be the first time that I didn’t hit a single rock on the first day of the preseason! Not bad. Not bad at all!”
