The Squaw-Alpine Connect was closed once again today.  It was expected to open monday, announced to open today, and hopefully will be open tomorrow.

Today the concern was wet snow avalanches in Alpine’s high traverse zone.  Temperatures are very high today (57F right now in Truckee) and the wet avalanche hazard is too high to have people out in the sidecountry.  We think this is a good call.

“Hey folks, unfortunately the KT backcountry gate will not be opening today. Alpine Meadows has closed the high traverse due to warm temperatures creating an unstable snowpack, therefore the gates on both sides will be closed.

I know this is a bummer as we’ve all been waiting so long. Soon enough we will be able to ski and ride between the two resorts.” – Squaw Valley

The only problem is that the temperatures are forecast to be like this from now on.  Will we get a chance at the resort to resort traverse?  We think so, but we aren’t sure when…
