Pipeline at Snowbird

Pipeline at Snowbird

Today was by far my favorite day of the year at Snowbird! Why you ask…. Was it the deepest? No. The powder days this season have not been my favorite days at all. Then what was it about today that made it the best? Well, mostly the fact that there was absolutely nobody at the mountain. We raged trams from 9:10am to 3:00pm and never waited on a line. Most of the trams were about half full tops. Another reason that today was top dog was the weather. It was warm but not too warm and the sun was out making landings uber visible. Mr. Sun didn’t hurt anyones goggle tans either. Last, but far from least was the snow. The few new inches of pow and some heavy wind creamed out the Upper Cirque in a way I have rarely seen. Pipeline was not open, I just thought it looked sexy today so I took a picture of it.

Timp
Timp was looking sexy too.

Some heavy lines were thrown down today and I am sorry that I forgot my video camera at home. Today’s edit would have been the best in a long time. New lines were opened in the Forbidden Area by an unknown skier early this morning including a straitline/double combo I have never seen before. Death Chute, Elevator, Jaws and Diagonal were attacked by the small contingent of aggressive freeskiers who were on hand today.

Skiing Powder
Kyle G. was playing in the sandbox on North Baldy.

The Mineral Jib Line was also going off today! The Cross Hill Triple and Lift Line Straitline were epic! Ski patrol shut down the through the tower jump after a few laps due to……I am not sure why since it is the smallest jump in the whole line. I am sure they have some sort of reason.

North Baldy
North Baldy looks fast and fresh at about 1:00pm....Nice!

Baldy as always was the cream of the crop. West had a little bit of crust mixed in with 6-8 inches on dry gropple that made is lightning fast and silky smooth. North was blessed with even deeper gropple and a lot less crust. It felt like skiing on mega fast sand out there. This sand was of course awesome for landings and our crew got hooked up with members of the Alta Snowboard Team for the last few runs of hucking in the Amphitheater. I think that was another factor that made the day so great. Even though there were very few people on the hill, the ones that were there were sending it super hard and everyone was riding together. Kumbaya.
