Squaw Valley forecast this week

Squaw Valley forecast this week

Snow everyday in the forecast for a week?  This is one of the only weeks of this winter that has had a forecast like this.  As of right now, Tuesday night thru Wednesday they are talking about 5-11 inches of snow.  For us this year, that’s a lot of snow.

NOAA.gov:

Tuesday Night: Snow. Low around 34. Breezy. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 7 inches possible.

Wednesday: Snow showers. High near 40. Breezy. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.

Here are some specifics for the first wave tonight thru Tuesday:

NOAA.gov:

“The images show the expected location of low pressure centers with forecast precipitation in the shaded areas by late this evening (left image) and Tuesday afternoon (right image). For tonight, snow and rain showers will develop across western Nevada, with isolated snow accumulations up to 2 inches possible in west central Nevada east of Highway 95. For Monday and Monday night, most areas will remain dry as weak high pressure builds in behind the departing low. By Tuesday, another storm system moving into the eastern Pacific will bring increased winds across the region. Rain and high elevation snow will reach eastern California near the Sierra crest mainly from Highway 50 northward to far western Lassen county Tuesday afternoon through Tuesday night, but amounts will drop off quickly east of the crest. Much heavier precipitation totals are expected west of the Sierra crest through the middle of this week.

What we are hoping for is enough snow to get the Chimney open.  One good Chimney session and I think that the Squaw locals will be pretty happy with our season.  We haven’t been given much.  But if we can get the Chimney, the world will seem right.
