Wow! The Red Bull Cold Rush 2012 has been going down over the last few days in Silverton, Co. The lines skied during the Big Mountain discipline are some of the most extreme lines I’ve seen skied in a competition. North America’s answer to the Verbier Xtreme.
This year the Big Mountain venue is held on Silverton Mountain’s north-facing Storm Peak, the highest ski area in North America at 13,487 feet. The aptly-named peak snares snow from passing storms, filling in the steep, rocky chutes and couloirs. The Grande and Pequeño chutes where the discipline is held are so steep that they do not see any sunshine until March, keeping the snow cold and light.

Riddled with no fall zones and questionable snow stability, the athletes were forced to reconsider their lines the day of the event after a slide ripped loose and closed down a third of the competition venue.
The Red Bull Cold Rush is a peer judged event where the athletes will determine the winners but you can vote for a people’s choice winning line here at redbullusa.com
