avalanche fatality
Brandywine Area

I am afraid to report that yet another avalanche fatality occurred today just south of Whistler as a group of 5 snowmobilers triggered a large slide in the Brandywine snowmobiling region. Sources say two of the group were buried at around 3:30 this afternoon (March 6), and the rest of the group managed to recover both; one unharmed and the other was unconscious, unresponsive and had no pulse after he was buried for nearly 20 minutes.

“His friends started CPR and continued until search and rescue arrived and took over.” said Whistler RCMP Staff Sgt. Steve LeClair in a press release.

The victim is a 44-year-old Squamish resident whose name has yet to be released.

We will keep you posted with any updates to this story as soon as possible.

Again our thoughts go out to the victim’s friends and family. Please stay safe out there everyone.
