On February 25 at about 1pm, a chair fell off the cable at Boyne Highlands ski resort in Michigan.  This incident occurred on the Camelot ski lift.  A ski instructor and a young child were riding the chair when it luckily fell only 6 feet to the ground below.  These two skiers received only minor injuries.
“The safety of our customers is our utmost concern and we take this incident very seriously.  We wish our guests that were affected a full and speedy recovery.” – Joe Breighner, Boyne Highlands’ ski area manager
The cause of the accident is currently unknown.  The accident is under investigation via Boyne Highlands officials and State of Michigan Lift Inspector.  There has been talk of the the cause of the accident being a “misload.”
The lift that failed, the Camelot, gets a daily safety check and had passed a yearly state safety inspection before the start of the 2011/12 ski season.
After the chair fell off, the remaining passengers were unloaded and the lift was stopped.  After an inspection by the State of Michigan, the Camelot chair was reopened 3 hours later at 4pm on February 25th.
Scary or what?  Why are these chairs falling off?  Would be a nightmare, no?
